Six keys fly the plane, straight from the official game description:

The tap rhythm

Bumpy Flight's aircraft keep momentum after every input. Hold W and the climb steepens past where you wanted; hold A and the bank keeps rolling. Experienced crews fly in taps — press, release, wait for the response, adjust — and describe held keys as the cause of nearly every stall they see.

If you take one habit from this guide, take this one. It costs nothing and immediately changes how your flights end.

Takeoff pattern

Full throttle with Shift. Wait for the plane to feel light. Tap W. Ease into a shallow climb, then level. That's the whole pattern; most takeoff crashes come from a held W turning the lift-off into a stall.

Climb to a comfortable altitude before you touch anything else — altitude is the buffer that turns later mistakes into recoveries instead of crashes.

Cruise discipline

At cruise, watch the DISTANCE REMAINING panel, not the islands — the counter is the truth about progress, and players report a maximum-altitude ceiling where flying straight beats terrain-following. Set a steady pitch, then make small corrections only.

This is also the phase where cabin work happens: the fridge, the PA announcements, comfort management. The pilot's job is to stay boring.

Stall recovery

A stall announces itself: the nose pitches steeply, speed bleeds off, and the plane starts dropping despite W held. Recovery is counter-instinct: release everything, level the wings, let speed rebuild, then ease into a gentle climb.

Practice it once on a throwaway flight. After that, stalls stop being scary and start being a routine you execute in three beats.

The descent and landing

Begin descending while the destination is still distant: cut throttle in steps, trade altitude for alignment, and arrive at the runway low and slow. The landing itself is gentle S taps and a near-idle throttle, letting the plane settle.

Landing is where beta bugs most often bite — a glitchy touchdown is a known community complaint. Land ugly but alive: a completed rough landing pays; a crashed pretty one doesn't.

Mobile and controller notes

The official description documents keyboard controls, and every deep tutorial reviewed covers PC. Mobile support details haven't been verified in footage we've reviewed — if you fly on mobile, treat this page's tap rhythm as the transferable skill and the key list as PC-only.

FAQ

Bumpy Flight Controls Guide: Takeoff to Landing, Tap by Tap FAQ

What are the Bumpy Flight controls on PC?

W/S pitch, A/D turn, Shift increases throttle, Ctrl decreases throttle and unlocks the mouse. That's the full official list — six keys cover everything.

How do I stop stalling?

Stop holding keys. Stalls come from held inputs over-correcting the pitch. Tap, release, and wait for the plane to respond before adjusting again.
